Herbal Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse (Part 1) 🍏
This is something that I've been doing for almost two years now and I thought I'd share it with you! The infused vinegar is used on the hair and scalp to help balance skin oils, reduce dryness and make the hair shiny. This recipe works for all hair lengths and you may already see results after the first use (like softer or shinier hair)! 🍎🌾
🌿 Collect fresh herbs that correspond to your individual hair needs (in part 2 you can see a list with some of my favorite herbs and their main properties). If you don't have fresh herbs, you can use dried ones or even use herbs from organic tea bags (for example peppermint). This recipe also works great for all the dried herbs that you may have left over from last year’s harvest and don't necessarily want to use for cooking anymore.
🌿 Take a small glass jar and put your herbs inside. Make sure to press them down a little or cut them into smaller pieces so that they can fully be covered with the vinegar and don't get moldy. In the video I'm making a lower concentrated infusion, but you can definitely use more herbs for this as well!
🌿 Get some organic apple cider vinegar and fill the jar with it until at least the herbs are fully covered and stir everything / press it down to release even more of the essential oils.
🌿 Keep the jar in your refrigerator for at least 3 weeks and shake regularly (daily, if possible) to speed up the infusion process and to keep the herbs covered in vinegar to prevent mold.
🌿 After 3 - 6 weeks, you will notice that the apple cider vinegar starts to pleasantly smell like the herbs. Then you can take out all of the herbs, making sure to press them out with your hands to release the rest of the essential oils into the vinegar. Continue storing it in your refrigerator, where it can hold up for months.
Herbal Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse (Part 2) 🍏
💆♀️ I'd recommend using a bowl or vase specifically for the infusion and simply keeping it in the shower. Use the infusion once or twice a week.
💆♀️ Depending on your hair length, add 1 - 5 tablespoons of the infused apple cider vinegar into the bowl and fill it up with water (approx. 1 - 2 l).
💆♀️ Get in the shower and use your shampoo and conditioner as usually (if possible, use silicone free products) and rinse it out. Then, take the bowl with the infused vinegar and let your hair soak in it for about 30 seconds - 1 minute.
💆♀️ Then pour the rest of the vinegar water mixture from the bowl over your head (you can let it pour over your face as well, since it's really good for your skin too, just make sure to close your eyes tightly 😅) and let it sit for another minute. Then quickly rinse off with cold or lukewarm water. Done!
💆♀️ Please try out the apple cider vinegar water mixture on your wrist first to make sure your skin doesn't react badly to it.
Did you know that common hair ties can damage the hair and can contribute to it breaking? 🍂
It is common knowledge that heat isn't good for the hair, but hair elastics and such can actually damage the hair just the same. They squeeze the hair and chafe the outer layer of it, the so-called hair cuticle. As a result, the hair doesn't look as silky and shiny, the ends split and it tends to break. ✂️
That's why it's so important to use hair accessories that are gentle on the hair. If you are interested, you can find lots of different shapes of handcrafted hair pieces for all hair types in our shop! 🤗
My favorite hair care tips and products I use 🚿✨
🧼 I use mostly shampoo bars, since it means less plastic and also no silicones etc., which in the long run prevents the hair from getting greasy. You can massage it in with a scalp massage brush for about 1 minute. This stimulates circulation to the scalp to promote hair growth and cleanses it from silicones and dandruff.
🧽 Same thing with conditioner bars, which I only use in the lower half of the hair. You can comb it out with a wide comb while still in the shower - but be careful with this, since wet hair is more sensitive to breaking than dry hair and I only recommend this with curly hair, not straight or wavy hair.
🛍️ I store my shampoo bars in a small bag that I simply hang from my shower rod. To transport them, I use a small old airtight lunchbox to prevent them from leaking out water after I used them.
🍎 I do the Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse 1-2x per week after using shampoo and conditioner. Depending on what you infuse it with, it helps against greasy prone hair, dandruff, dry scalp,... You can find the link to an easy recipe on the website under "tutorials" or in my instagram feed way back or in the instagram highlight "tutorials | care". I seriously swear by this recipe!
🧹 I use a wooden brush and simply let my hair dry / use a hairdryer on low heat setting. You can also use a tiny bit of oil, like grapeseed oil / avocado oil, and massage it into the tips of your wet hair to protect it from heat and split ends.
🎭 Sometimes I do hair masks (DIY or store-bought), but not too often and I brush my hair every morning and every night to detangle any knots.
⏰ What's really important, don't switch between too many different products too often. Your scalp and hair need to readjust every time and prevent the products from working in the way they would if you used them over a longer amount of time.
* Please note that every person's hair is different and that I'm simply sharing my personal experience, which doesn't mean that these products are suitable for you. Please also make sure you're not allergic to any of the ingredients when you try new products. *

🌿 Rosemary Hair Spray 🌿
This is probably one of the easiest and fastest hair care recipes I've ever tried, while still having an amazing effect after using it for a couple of weeks. 🌸
As I've shared before, rosemary is one of my favorite herbs to use in hair care. It promotes hair growth by stimulating blood circulation to the scalp (you can sometimes even feel how the skin is warming up and tingling a little) and adds shine to the hair. ✨
I already use rosemary in my infused apple cider vinegar rinse (you can find the recipe is in my reels and on the homepage under Tutorials), but lately I've been looking for something that I can just quickly use in the morning and/or evening as well and that also supports the health of my hair and scalp. 💆🏼♀️
Simply add a handful of rosemary - fresh or dry - to a pot and cover it with some hot water. You can also add mint and/or cinnamon to boost the effect. Put the lid on top to prevent any essential oils from evaporating and bring to a boil for about 5 minutes. Let it cool down and leave it over night. The next day, bring it to a boil again, let it cool, take out all of the rosemary (press it out to get as much of the essential oil out as possible) and fill the rosemary water into a spray bottle. 🍶
Spray your hair (especially the roots) with this in the evening and/or morning. If put in the fridge, you can usually use it for up to 5 days. 🌙☀️
Disclaimer: Please make sure you're not allergic to rosemary before using this recipe. Also, rosemary can heighten your blood pressure if used in a very high concentration.

🧼 Benefits of using a scalp massaging brush 🧼
(by https://motherdirt.com/blogs/everything-else/scalp-brush-benefits?_pos=1&_sid=fb4f1a45f&_ss=r)
"1. HELPS WITH DANDRUFF
Perhaps the most noticeable benefit of scalp brushes is that they help remove dead skin cells, oils and product build-up that can clog follicles and cause dandruff.
Scalp irritation and flakiness can be the result of problems with your scalp microbiome. For example, people with dandruff often struggle with irritation, which triggers a response that stimulates cell turnover. When this happens, the excess dead skin appears on your scalp as flakes (aka dandruff).
By helping loosen natural scalp build-up, scalp brushes can help your scalp become healthier. And when you use a microbiome friendly shampoo, like Mother Dirt's, you are working to balance your microbiome in two different ways.
2. STIMULATES THE SCALP
Using a scalp massage brush can stimulate the living hair follicle cells to produce thicker, healthier hair. They help stimulate cells within the scalp. The rush of blood flow to the area increases and promotes the distribution of nutrients throughout the scalp and hair roots.
3. PROMOTES CIRCULATION
Gentle stimulation to the scalp will boost the circulation of oxygen, blood and nutrients - all key to encouraging healthier hair.
Keep in mind, the keyword here is gentle. Pressing too hard or using a scalp brush too often can leave the scalp irritated, making conditions like dandruff even worse. Remember to massage the scalp carefully.
4. HELPS GET HAIR CARE PRODUCTS OUT
Brushes for the scalp can help remove dirt and build-up that clogs the hair follicles on the scalp. Using a scalp brush can remove dead skin cells, excess sebum and product build-up that clogs hair follicles and can cause hair loss.
5. MAKES PRODUCTS MORE EFFECTIVE
Without the product build-up and dead skins on your scalp, your shampoo and conditioner can better penetrate the scalp and therefore become more effective.
You can use a shampoo brush to work the shampoo into your scalp before lathering the product to your hair strands.
6. STRENGTHENS HAIR
Incorporating a massage tool can be highly beneficial for those with fine hair. As you massage the head with a scalp brush, you're also evenly distributing your hair's natural oils. This can restore much-needed moisture to the scalp. In addition, maintaining the proper sebum balance in the scalp will eventually improve the overall health of your hair.
7. IMPROVES MOOD
A surprising benefit of using a scalp brush has nothing to do with hair but a lot to do with your overall mood. Massages are connected to the idea of relaxation, and a scalp massage can help relieve built-up tension.
One study found that head and scalp massages are beneficial for increasing mental health and wellbeing. Even a short scalp massage can help release serotonin.
8. MAY PROMOTE HAIR GROWTH
While the scientific research behind this claim is still ongoing, anecdotal reports of scalp brushes believe they help stimulate hair growth. So far, there was a study back in 2016 that confirmed using a scalp massager for four minutes over a 24-week period resulted in visibly thicker, stronger hair and accelerated hair growth.
Another study in 2019, which included 340 participants, yielded similar results. In this study, participants massaged their scalp twice per day to improve alopecia, chronic hair loss. Approximately 69% of participants said the scalp massage improved their hair loss, encouraging new hair growth.
9. REDUCES TENSION
Very much like you build tension in your back and shoulders, scalp tension is also common. We can hold tension across our hairline, behind our ears and at the root of the neck. This is primarily due to stress and can also be affected by posture.
Scalp tension can result in constricted blood vessels, which reduces blood flow to the hair follicle and could lead to hair loss. Getting regular scalp massages using a scalp brush can help reduce the tension of the neck and back muscles. This can also reduce symptoms of migraines and back pain.
10. IMPROVES THE NERVOUS SYSTEM
Our nervous system is responsible for our overall health and wellbeing. Regular massage treatments can promote people's health with nervous system disease, offering plenty of therapeutic benefits.
But, using a scalp brush on yourself can also support the nervous system by stimulating healthy blood flow and circulation. This, in return, activates your body's natural healing abilities and helps your body remain balanced.
How to use it
While you can use a scalp brush with wet or dry hair, the easiest way to incorporate a scalp brush into your hair care routine is when you wash your hair:
Before you shower, ensure your hair is free of knots by using a wide-tooth comb.
Once in the shower, soak hair thoroughly. Then, apply shampoo to your hair and work a little into the scalp.
Take your scalp brush and gently massage the formula into the scalp using small, circular movements. Massage the scalp for a few minutes, but no longer than five.
Then, lather the shampoo into your hair strands using your hands. You may use the scalp brush to free any knots that formed during the massage.
Rinse hair thoroughly. You may use the scalp brush to carefully make sure all product is rinsed away by massaging the scalp one more time.
Finish with your conditioner."

🌻 My top 6 summer hair care tips 🌻
🧼 Prepare your hair. Give it some extra care with conditioner, masks and oils before the vacation / beach days to strengthen it in advance. Do the same thing as after-care after long summer days in the sun or at the beach.
☀️ Don't dye your hair before your vacation. It can fade from the sun or even change colour, e.g. chlorine can turn bleached / blonde hair green.
🪶 Don't put your hair up in a tight ponytail and avoid using hair elastics, since wet hair is even more prone to split ends and breaking.
Better put it up in a bun and secure with a hair fork / hair stick / hair slide, which are more gentle on the hair.
👒 Wear a hat to protect your scalp from sunburn. If you don't have a hat at hand, make sure to change the line where your hair parts every 15-30 minutes to prevent sunburn.
🍹 Stay hydrated. Make sure to drink enough water and don't stay in salt water for too long, since it dries out your skin, which means it also dries out your scalp. Also, rinse your hair and skin with fresh water to cleanse it from salt and chlorine.
🚿 Try not using a hair dryer. In summer you can simply air dry your hair instead of using additional heat which would be damaging to your hair.
Function of hair products
There are thousands of different hair products out there with millions of different promises and uses and it can get really confusing when it comes to figuring out what you really need 💭
So I've made a short list of my personal hair care essentials with a simple explanation of what it actually does to your hair: 🧽
🧼 Shampoo bar (applied with a scalp massager): opens up the cuticle layer of the hair and stimulates circulation to the scalp
🍎 Herbally infused apple cider vinegar: balances the pH level of the scalp
🚿 Conditioner bar: closes the cuticle layer of the hair (💡 fun fact: it actually can't "repair" hair - hair outside of the scalp isn't alive and once broken it stays that way, so closing the cuticle layer prevents additional damage, but it's not possible to actively repair it)
🍶 Hair oil: "seals" the cuticle layer shut to protect it from external influences (e.g. prevents split ends from tearing even further, kind of like conditioner)
💆♀️ Hair mask: hair/scalp can take in all of the ingredients and gets nurtured
Did you know there's a difference between hair soap and solid shampoo? 🧼
I've been using organic shampoo bars for quite a few years, especially to avoid all the plastic waste. They usually contain very similar ingredients to the liquid shampoo in bottles though. 🧴
So I've been wanting to try out hair soaps - like actual soaps, but with additional ingredients that are good for the hair compared to regular hand soap - and I've finally gotten up the "courage". 😅 I'm using the Speick Hair Soap* (around 2,95€ for 45g), which I've tried about 4 years ago, but it ended up making my hair look dry and kind of greasy close to the scalp and I quickly gave up on it and switched back to shampoo bars. 🚿
Here's my experience with HAIR SOAP so far after using it again for the past 2 months:
🍎 washing out the soap (I also sometimes shampoo and wash twice) and then thoroughly rinsing it with an apple cider VINEGAR HAIR RINSE is absolute key!
🔑 If you don't use a sour hair rinse, the GLYCERINE that naturally forms will stay in your hair and make it look greasy (there's also a sticky feeling until the hair is completely dry - in my case this has disappeared after doing this routine for about 1 week)
💆♀️ you won't need any ADDITIONAL hair products like conditioner or hair oil (but can use them anyway if you like)
🎀 I have naturally WAVY hair and after putting my hair up in a bun after showering with the hair soap, those waves stay until the next shower and don't even flatten over night
🔗 My hair feels more STRUCTURED and although at first I thought it was kind of dried out from the soap, it now looks more nourished and shiny and feels really soft (also: I feel like hair accessories have an even better "grip" on the hair)
⏰ I feel like it took a few times to WASH OUT the ingredients from my former "regular shampoo bar" out of my hair and from my scalp, so I feel like it's important not to switch between them too often and rather stick to one shampoo/soap
🧼 Bonus: the hair soap is a little more expensive (per gram) compared to solid shampoo bars from the drug store, however I feel like I use it up a lot slower than the shampoo bars, which actually makes the hair soap CHEAPER in the long run
*unbezahlte Werbung, da Markennennung, selbstgekauft
Real talk: are you losing lots of hair or have a feeling your hair is too thin? 😟 Don't worry, there are solutions for this 🧡
If you experience hair loss for a longer period of time, these are some of the most common reasons: ⛑️
⚖️ hormonal imbalances (natural or post-pill)
🎀 damaging hair ties, clips and extensions
⚗️ chemicals (from bleaching or hair products)
Try this to stop 🛡️ hair loss and help grow out your hair in a healthy way:
🥗 the base of everything: a healthy lifestyle, so organic non-GMO foods, lots of fresh fruit and veggies, enough liquids, less to no alcohol and caffeine, and exercise - also, possibly get your hormones checked if nothing seems to work 🧪
✨ use hair accessories that aren't damaging your hair in the way that hair ties etc do -> click the link in our bio to find yours in the Antimony shop 💌
🚿 don't wash your hair daily, since it gets rid of natural oils, dries out the scalp, creates dandruff and makes the hair look greasy faster
🍶 use shampoo and conditioner with natural ingredients - no silicones and such
🧽 use a scalp massager to promote stimulation to the scalp, thus furthering thicker hair growth
🍎 do an apple cider vinegar hair rinse weekly -> you can find a full tutorial on the Antimony website 🖱️
💇♀️ bonus tip: cut your hair at least every 6 - 9 months to prevent split ends from progressing further upwards
As you can see, there are so many solutions to this problem! Take one step at a time and slowly add to it. 📝 You've got this! 💙
